UCF College of Business Unveils Newly Remodeled Withum Learning Lab

ORLANDO, Fla. – The accounting lab at UCF College of Business got a much-needed makeover thanks to national accounting firm Withum. The newly named Withum Learning Lab, unveiled during a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday, March 27, provides tutoring services and collaboration space to thousands of UCF business students each year.

“Our partnership with Withum not only provides students with an invigorating space to study and work together, it also connects them to a nationally ranked Top 25 accounting firm that offers internship and career opportunities,” said Paul Jarley, dean of the college.

Jarley was joined by Withum partner and UCF graduate Russell Goldberg, ’89, to dedicate the renovated space to the memory of three Withum team members, including two-time UCF alum Sandi Breitenstein, ’88, ’90, who passed away after a battle with cancer in 2015.

“Sandi was a passionate UCF Knight who loved her black and gold. She along with former Withum team members Barb Sorenson and Robin Word were incredible individuals who displayed unparalleled enthusiasm and passion for their careers in accounting,” Goldberg said. “The messaging found throughout this learning lab incorporates Withum’s values and tenets of our culture emphasizing passion, innovation and strength.”

Goldberg said Withum was committed to helping students succeed in college and in their careers.

“We are always looking to hire talented UCF students to ensure Withum’s continued success. After all,” Goldberg said, gesturing to the Withum leadership team gathered at the event, “we would all like to retire someday and make sure the firm is in good hands.”

Greg Trompeter, Ph.D., director of the Kenneth G. Dixon School of Accounting at UCF, said the lab is a mainstay for accounting students looking for guidance or assistance with classwork and many students spend several hours in the lab each week.

“The efforts of our graduate tutoring staff and the time students spend studying are incredibly vital to their success,” Trompeter said. “We are thrilled to partner with Withum to improve the facility and provide a more comfortable learning space.”
