As a Marketing major, Pedro Valencia found a natural inclination toward the world of sales, eventually joining the Professional Selling Program (PSP) at UCF. As one of 60 students in the program, Valencia’s journey, character and endurance make him a perfect example of a future sales leader.
“We need to encourage the development of genuine sales representatives with a strong personal brand who can develop comprehensive sales strategies within organizations,” Valencia said.
Valencia’s resume includes internship experiences for companies like Eli Lilly and Net Conversions. His experience has taught him that, no matter the industry, establishing a genuine relationship will pay off – even if an immediate sale is not guaranteed. Pedro’s relationship-based style of selling and his commitment to helping others is evident in many areas of his life. Our student spotlight is a prime example of how the Professional Selling Program at UCF is a true game-changer in the lucrative world of sales.

About Your College Experience
Why did you join the Professional Selling Program (PSP)?
During October of 2019, I was interning for Eli Lilly. One of their sales representatives is a PSP Alumni, and she told me to apply for the program because she said it was the best decision she ever made. She told me about the Chally assessments and their approach to sales. Surely enough, I applied and received word that I got accepted into the program. So far, the best decision I ever made.
What do you enjoy most about the PSP?
The leadership in the program is phenomenal. If it wasn’t for the faculty directing and implementing the program, none of the students would be successful. Everyone who guides us is there for a purpose and a reason and they are there to help us become the best version of ourselves for the future.
How has the PSP helped you develop as a professional?
Since entering the program, I have become a more confident and vocal speaker. I can easily portray a story and speak to anyone. As a member of the PSP family, I have a large network of individuals ready to assist and guide me toward specific industries within the selling department. I have been given so much exposure to so many industries like medical devices, pharmaceutical, rental equipment and they all have the same goal of reaching people in an honest manner.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself in a company that I can grow and become a wise leader. Without being industry specific, I really just want to reach people and network as much as possible. The goal is to be a humble person who gets the chance to lead people, while being a top performer. It is about creating that unique balance between people and sales that unfortunately many salespeople do not become.
Pedro’s anticipated graduation date is Spring 2021. We wish Pedro best of luck in his career; we will surely be seeing more of him and his success in the future. Go Knights!
