Biography
Alfred Whiffen is an instructor in the Integrated Business program at UCF. Since 2009, he has led Sales and Marketing efforts of startup and early-stage companies in Eastern Canada. He recently joined RouteThis of Kitchener, Ontario, as a Senior Enterprise Account Executive and is responsible for driving the company’s sales efforts with Tier I telecommunication companies in Canada, the United States and New Zealand.
Before joining RouteThis, he was Chief Sales Officer/Head of Customer Development for Mariner Partners of Saint John, NB. In this role, he was responsible for global go-to-market strategy and sales for the company and led a team of seven salespeople in the UK, USA, and Canada. Before joining Mariner, Alfred was Director of Customer Development for Avalon Holographics, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Virtual Marine, and Vice President of Sales for Avalon Microelectronics, all of St. John’s NL. Avalon Microelectronics was acquired by San Jose, CA-based Altera (now Intel) for an undisclosed amount.
Throughout his professional Sales career, Alfred has been a lifelong student of Sales and has held positions as an business-to-business sales professional and progressively responsible roles leading regional, national, and global business-to-business sales teams in the Telecommunications, Semiconductor, Information Technology, and Oil and Gas sectors.
Alfred holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree (1985) and a Masters in Business Administration (2002) from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Alfred has taught Sales courses as an Adjunct Instructor since 1990. He taught Professional Selling and Sales Management in the Business Management program at Keyin Technical College and since 2007, has taught Professional Selling and Sales Leadership courses in the Bachelor of Commerce, BBA, and MBA programs at Memorial University of Newfoundland & Labrador. He has developed and delivered sales training and development courses to startup and early-stage companies in the Genesis Center in St. John’s, NL since 2018 and has developed and delivered Professional Selling and Virtual Selling programs through the Gardiner Center; Memorial University’s professional development hub.
Alfred was Chair of the Board of the Canadian Professional Sales Association (CPSA) for 2013 and 2014 and was a member of the Association’s Board of Directors for nine years. Alfred has obtained a Certified Sales Professional (with Distinction) designation from CPSA and is a lifetime member of the organization.
