From cheering in the Bounce House to exploring gamification in marketing, Shelley brings passion, expertise, and heart to her students. Learn how she’s shaping the next generation of Business Knights, what inspires her inside and outside the classroom, and the advice she gives for standing out in the age of AI.
How long have you been a Knight? : I have been a faculty member with Integrated Business for the last 8 years, however I have been a Knight for over 25 years, earning my MBA at UCF in 1998.
What is your favorite UCF memory?I’ve been a football fan my entire life, but the energy in the Bounce House during football games is like nowhere else! Best place to watch a game.
What is your area of research at UCF?Gamification in marketing, customer loyalty programs, and marketing ethics
What professional awards or honors have you earned during your career? College of Business TIP Award in 2023
What do you love about what you do? I love helping my students map a path to their futures and watching them find success.
What do you find most exciting or rewarding about your field of study? I enjoy teaching in the Integrated Business program because it leans into my multidisciplinary background, which allows me to explore issues related to digital media, marketing, law, and ethics while still crossing multiple industries.
When you’re not in the classroom, what can we find you doing? At our getaway in the North Carolina mountains or traveling anywhere the opportunity takes me. I especially enjoy stopping at local wineries and meeting the owners and winemakers. I have learned a lot about geography and climate in understanding wine regions. Traveling while wearing UCF merch has led to meeting UCF alumni around the world.
What are some little known facts about you? My background is tourism marketing, with a diversion to earn a law degree from George Washington University
What is your advice for Business Knights? Remember to be human. Using effective critical thinking skills is the most important way to separate yourself from what can be automated through AI. Embracing your humanity and the unique skills that you bring to the table is what sets you apart.
