How long have you been a Knight? 26 years
What is your favorite UCF memory? At the 2016 UCF graduation, I was hooding a finance PhD student when Albert Manero received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering. Albert, the cofounder and president of Limbitless Solutions, has dedicated his work to creating 3-D printed bionic limbs for children. In a heartwarming surprise, the first child to receive a bionic arm from Limbitless Solutions helped hood Albert. Witnessing that moment was a powerful reminder of how innovation, compassion, and education can come together to change lives.
What is your area of research at UCF? My research focuses on corporate governance, particularly the roles of boards of directors and executive compensation in shaping firm outcomes under conditions of uncertainty, regulation, and managerial incentives.
What professional awards or honors have you earned during your career? I served as president of the Southern Finance Association. I am currently an associate editor at two finance journals. I have won 5 UCF Teaching Incentive Program Awards.
What do you love about what you do? I get to discover new knowledge through research and share it in ways that inspire students, making my work both intellectually stimulating and deeply rewarding.
What do you find most exciting or rewarding about your field of study? Financial decisions shape businesses, markets, and people’s lives. It is rewarding to uncover insights through research that can inform better decision-making and to help students build the tools to navigate and influence the financial world.
When you’re not in the classroom, what can we find you doing? I love traveling, running, reading, and cooking. I try to complete a half marathon every year, and I have even finished a full marathon. Above all, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, which includes our golden retriever!
What is a little known fact about you? I was a Division I athlete, specifically a swimmer at Florida State University. This fall, I’m being inducted into my high school’s athletic Hall of Fame for being the Texas high school state champion in the 500-yard freestyle.
What is your advice for Business Knights? My advice to Business Knights is to pursue what truly excites you. When you’re passionate about your work, challenges become opportunities to grow. In finance and beyond, strong critical thinking skills are your greatest asset. They help you ask the right questions, make informed decisions, and adapt in a constantly changing world. Invest in developing those skills, stay curious, and let your passion guide you.
