I view my primary responsibility as an educator to create an environment that is conducive to learning. I do not view myself as a teacher, per se, but more as a coach and facilitator. Students have a wide range of capabilities, and different ways of learning. My role is to provide an environment that allows the flexibility in the delivery of course material necessary for students to find the approach that challenges their needs and capabilities, so that they can develop their own unique understanding of the concepts.
I come to this role with more than thirty years of corporate management experience, and try to use that experience to connect the material presented in the course with the real-life rewards (and consequences) of applying what the students are learning. My focus has always been to make the experience as “real” as possible, so that students have a reference point to use whenever they encounter similar situations and opportunities in their careers.
